Gary came to the workshop looking to build on the basic woodworking skills he learned at NAFA’s short courses. While he had foundational knowledge, he wanted to push further by developing his own design; something he hadn’t had the chance to do before, as his previous experience relied on pre-made templates. Together, we refined his vision, balancing aesthetics with practicality, and we provided guidance on technical execution, material choices, and stylistic details to bring his idea to life.
Hands-Off Learning, Hands-On Results
The project spanned two full days, with Gary preferring a hands-off learning approach. After a thorough introduction to the tools and machinery, he worked independently, applying new techniques with confidence. Our instructor supervised closely, stepping in only when needed whether to assist with heavy materials or offer quick troubleshooting tips. Along the way, we addressed mistakes in real-time, turning them into valuable lessons by teaching him professional tricks for adjustments and refinements.
