Unusual, Unusual Request

When Kevin approached us with his unique request; a custom stand to display his medieval armor, we were intrigued. While medieval roleplaying isn’t a common hobby in Singapore, we were excited to take on the challenge. After listening to his needs, we settled on pine wood for its ideal balance of lightness and strength, ensuring the stand would be both sturdy and easy to move. The real test, however, was designing a structure for an object we’d never worked with before.

Building Beyond The Blueprint

Despite our experience in woodworking, neither of us had prior experience with how such armor rests on the body. Hence, the design process became a hands-on collaboration. Kevin was deeply involved, testing adjustments in real time as we shaped the stand to fit the armor’s weight distribution and contours. Without a fixed blueprint, we improvised by reinforcing joints where needed, adding changes for better support, and refining the structure based on Kevin’s feedback. His enthusiasm and willingness to experiment made the process dynamic and fun.

A Stand Fit for a Knight

By the end of the workshop, Kevin walked away with a fully functional, tailor-made armor stand; one that not only met his needs but also deepened his appreciation for woodworking. The project proved that even the most unconventional ideas can become reality with an open mind, collaboration, and a little creative problem-solving.
