Beyond the Digital Screen

A group of design students approached us for a Phone Stand Workshop. They wanted to take a break from their digital work and explore sustainable design through hands-on making. And also hoped to draw inspiration for their final-year projects. As this was our first time hosting a Phone Stand Class, we put in plenty of preparation to ensure the workshop ran smoothly and provided a meaningful learning experience.

From Intimidation to Confidence

When the students first arrived, they seemed intimidated by the woodworking tools. However, with our instructors' guidance and demonstrations, they gradually became more comfortable handling them. We guided them through every step, from marking the wood to applying oil on their finished phone stands. The students were enthusiastic about learning new techniques, actively asking questions and helping one another whenever needed. We are glad to see how hands-on activities can encourage teamwork while helping students gain confidence in working with unfamiliar materials and tools. It also reminded us that you'll never know what you can do until you try!

From Learning to Creating

Like all first runs of workshop classes, the session was filled with excitement, curiosity, and new experiences. The students gained confidence, learned new woodworking skills, and left with their very own handmade phone stands. We hope this experience inspires them to explore sustainable materials and hands-on craftsmanship in their future design projects, showing that great ideas don't have to stay on the screen!
