Bringing Woodworking to the Community Carnival
Ugly Wood Company was honored to participate in Toa Payoh East Community Club's annual Eat Play Rest funfair as one of their featured vendors. This marked our first experience running a full-day rotational workshop format, presenting an exciting new challenge for our team. With classes running every 1-1.5 hours for different groups of carnival attendees, we had to adapt our usual teaching approach to this fast-paced environment while maintaining our commitment to quality instruction.
Engaging Short-Format Workshops with Big Impact
We carefully designed each session to be concise yet meaningful, keeping instructions brief while ensuring participants could complete their projects within the time limit. In each short session, we demonstrated how simple woodworking techniques could transform scraps into beautiful, functional objects. Despite the shorter duration, we successfully incorporated our core values of sustainability, teaching participants about responsible material use and woodworking methods between hands-on activities.
Spreading Joy Through Accessible Craftsmanship
The event proved to be a success, introducing woodworking to community members who might have limited access to these resources. Seeing families work together, children's proud smiles as they completed their projects, and the general enthusiasm for our craft reaffirmed the power of making woodworking accessible to everyone. This experience has inspired us to develop more community-oriented programs that bring the satisfaction of craftsmanship to diverse audiences in engaging, time-friendly formats.
